0:06Hey folks, welcome to this edition of
0:08the Brunswick Beat. I am Jack Hamilton
0:10with the Hamilton Realy Group and I am
0:13so excited today to be sitting out here
0:15at Rusty Hooks Dockside Grill with the
0:18owner Cindy Caps. So Cindy, welcome.
0:21Thank you.
0:22So tell tell us a little bit about Rusty
0:25Hooks, how it came to be and how old it
0:28is. Just a little bit about that.
0:30Little bit about Rusty Hooks. Okay. How
0:32it came to be. I am a self-proclaimed
0:35foodie. I love good food.
0:37I love good food. Okay.
0:39I’m a boater.
0:40Y.
0:42I love to pull up at a restaurant on my
0:45boat and dock and dine. Cool.
0:46So, I tried to create a place where I
0:48would love to hang out. And over the
0:51years, it has taken on all these
0:53different new identities, including the
0:56live music venue on the deck.
0:57Absolutely. You’ve been killing it with
0:59that.
1:00Thank you. But who doesn’t want to sit
1:02by the water and drink a margarita and
1:03listen to live music?
1:05So, for people that might not know, tell
1:07us a little bit what they might find on
1:09the menu.
1:10Menu. Um, when we first opened, that
1:14menu is also grown. When we first
1:15opened, our menu was very Marylandbased.
1:18Um, and we’ve we’ve kept quite a few of
1:20those items. Uh, the previous owner of
1:23the restaurant um was from Maryland. And
1:26so we’ve got Maryland style crab cakes,
1:28no bread filler, gluten-free, whole nine
1:30yards, Maryland style cream and crab
1:32soup, that type of stuff, crab dip.
1:35We grew into a taste of North Carolina.
1:38So I resource as much as possible from
1:41North Carolina. And I’ve got fresh uh
1:44seafood. My fresh catch, Captain
1:46Robert’s fresh catch is a North Carolina
1:48fish when local when available.
1:50I’ve got North Carolina shrimp year
1:51round, North Carolina oysters year
1:53round. Um so I’ve got a little bit of
1:55everything. thing. I’m a seafood
1:56restaurant that also serves you a fillet
1:58with gorgensola butter.
1:59There you go. There you go.
2:00A bit of everything.
2:00Cool. That’s nice. I mean, and great to
2:02hear. So, if you had to ch pick
2:05something, what would be your favorite
2:07thing on the menu?
2:08That one’s hard. That one’s very hard.
2:11Um,
2:12I might go with the chapina this week.
2:15Really? Yes.
2:16Okay. Tell me about that. A chapino is
2:19is an Italian style, American Italian
2:21style stew, fish stew that has scallops,
2:24clams, shrimp, and pieces of our fresh
2:27ketch in it.
2:28Delicious.
2:29I was going to say that that that sounds
2:30like something I could go for, too. So
2:33cool.
2:34But then when I’m in a carnivore mood,
2:36it’s that fillet with the gorgeous olive
2:37butter.
2:38You D would love that. That’d be cool.
2:41So, all right. Switching switching up on
2:42you then. So, what’s like your favorite
2:44cocktail? Oh, again my favorite.
2:47Everybody knows mine, right?
2:48Favorite cocktail. I’m a bourbon girl
2:50and so we’ve got a pretty good bourbon
2:52selection, but when I’m doside,
2:54okay,
2:55I like that docside margarita.
2:57The doside margarita.
2:58That’s my Cadillac margarita.
2:59And I’ve heard about people talk about
3:01that all the time coming here and the
3:03doside margarita. So that’s cool. So,
3:05um, anything else that you you think you
3:08need to share with us about this great
3:10place and why people should come out?
3:14So, I think there are a lot of reasons,
3:17you know, but I think that the thing
3:19that I take the most pride in is we run
3:22our restaurant from a customer’s point
3:23of view. Um,
3:24yeah, you do.
3:25And we really do try to focus on the
3:27customer and the experience and the
3:29memories we’re building here.
3:31And, um, the other thing, like I said,
3:33that whole taste of the Carolas. Um,
3:37we take pride in local and giving back
3:40to our local.
3:41Yeah. Yeah. supporting locals. Yeah.
3:43Well, we just came from an event where
3:45we were talking about that stuff. So
3:47cool. Well, I I so much appreciate you
3:49taking the time to do this. Um and uh
3:52for all of you out there, please please
3:54come visit Rxy Hooks Dockside Grill when
3:58you are in the Oak Island Southport
4:00area. And uh that’s it for this edition
4:02of Brunswick Beat. Um we’ll catch you
4:04next time. You never know where you
4:06might find us.
