Spring is in full swing in southeastern NC and so are the fairs, festivals and outdoor activities. Weekends are full of options now that the sun is shining and temperatures are more consistently warm. Mark your calendars for the following upcoming events.

You won’t want to miss the Wilmington Azalea Festival April 8th-12th.   This annual celebration offers something for everyone. From garden luncheons and parades to street fairs and concerts you can fill your days with fun for the whole family. This year Alan Jackson and Nelly will play evening concerts and you can buy tickets online here.

The Azalea festival also includes The Oak Island Lighthouse5k/10k/Fun Walk hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. All proceeds from this event will benefit the “Big Buddy” mentoring program at the center. April 11th and 12th there is a Beach Volley Ball Tournament at Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill. Tickets to participate are $25 and $35 per person depending on the division. If you don’t play, you can have a bite to eat while watching your friends.As with all good festivals, fireworks are part of the Azalea Festival too. Another much anticipated April event is Phlock to the Beach. “A Buffett Style Beach Bash” a day of Jimmy Buffett inspired high spirited merriment at the beach, complete with a marathon, concerts, pancake breakfast, shag dance demonstration, street fair and the EAA chapter 939 “Wings and Wheels” show. All of this fun is happening April 18th at the Cape Fear Regional Jet Port on Long Beach Road in Southport.
