Cost Effective Ways To Update Your Home

Are you tired of the way your home looks?  Thinking of selling?  You don’t need to spend a fortune to update your home and make it more marketable for sale.  In fact, updating can be fun and affordable with the right projects.  Here are several ways to make a big difference in your home’s appearance without spending a lot of money:

Repaint.  Paint trends come and go, so if your walls are the same color from 25 years ago they are probably out of date.  Giving the home a new look with fresh up to date tones makes a big difference.

Change Light Fixtures.  Again, a very affordable way to make a big difference in your look would be to change out light fixtures.  Pendant lighting, Edison bulbs and simple recessed lighting are what’s hot with today’s designers and buyers.  If you haven’t updated in a long time, you will find that the cost of light fixtures is very reasonable and can help you to enjoy your home more and make it more attractive to the next buyer.

Update Your Hardware.  You’d be surprised at how easily doorknobs, drawer pulls, locks and handles can start to look aged and worn.  Take a good look at your existing hardware and consider upgrading to newer models.

Replace Your Appliances.  Do your appliances match?  Are they over 10 years old?  If so, you may want to visit your local appliance store or Lowe’s and find a package deal to replace them all. You’d be amazed at the efficiency of newer models and if you are trying to sell your home, this one change will bring you more money.  The old saying, kitchens and baths sell houses is still very true in today’s market.

Install A Kickplate.  A simple, affordable way to upgrade your curb appeal without replacing the front door is to install a kickplate. It’s an easy way to add visual appeal to any existing entryway.

Add Color To Your Landscaping.  Color in your yard sells!  Visit your local nursery or plant shop and find some plants that can add color to your landscaping.  You’ll love the look whether you are selling or staying in your home and can enjoy the view.

We hope these tips help you to enjoy your home more.  If you are looking to sell your home, please give our Hamilton Realty Group of Carolinas Connect Realty team a call for a free market report – 910.218.1300.
