Southport, North Carolina is currently in the running for Coastal Living Magazine’s  title “America’s Happiest Seaside Town of 2015” and we can’t help but think it isn’t all about the mild climate, outdoor activities and the history of this area that makes Southport such an obvious choice. Coastal Living will be hosting the contest until March 31st so you still have time to visit their website and vote for Southport. You can vote every hour of everyday by following this link

Coastal Living Magazine says “This pretty little harbor town of 2,800 on the banks of the tidal Cape Fear River has made a name for itself in films because of its lush coastal beauty and charming village of historic homes”. Locals would agree however the active lifestyle and warm sunny weather may just be the biggest reasons to move to Southport. And let’s not forget location! Southport is located between the Port city of Wilmington, NC and the vacation mecca Myrtle Beach, SC. Both cities offer Southport residents the amenities and extensive services of larger towns all within a short easy drive.

What is the criteria for the “Happiest Seaside Town” contest, you ask?

Online nominations from the public, Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index rating, percentage of clear and sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, walk-ability, crime ratings, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and our editors’ assessment of each town’s “coastal vibe” all went into consideration in selecting nominees.

Coastal Living Magazine  is no stranger to Southport. In 2009, Coastal Living built their Coastal Living Idea Home in a planned community on the outskirts of Southport. Tickets were sold and thousands of people toured the home to see the elaborate design and décor.

If you are looking for a vacation destination or a new place to call home, Southport certainly has a lot to offer.
